Expert Stairlift Installation in Hermitage, PA

Hermitage spreads across 29.56 square miles, making it the third-largest city in Pennsylvania by land area — a lot of ground for a place with just over 16,000 people, and it shows in the housing stock: split-levels and two-story homes on generous lots out toward the Shenango River Lake corridor, the kind of layouts where the stairs get harder to manage than the yard ever does. With 27.7% of residents over 65, stairlifts come up constantly in this part of Mercer County, mostly for folks who bought or built here decades ago and have no intention of leaving.

Stairlift Service Across Mercer County

Mercer County, PA

Hermitage breaks into clear stair-stock zones. The East State Street corridor and the residential blocks behind it run mostly 1960s–1990s colonial and ranch homes on half-acre lots — straight-flight stairs, clean tread material, a quarter-turn at the top. Buhl Park area and Avalon at Buhl Park contain the early-2000s cul-de-sac condos with three- and four-bedroom layouts and modest 14-tread runs. Wheatland — merged into Hermitage on January 1, 2024 — adds older duplex and bungalow stock with narrower treads and 1950s wiring. The Whispering Pines area near East State and the Shenango rural edge have 1990s Victorians on large lots with longer flights and a landing turn.

Common Questions

Everything Hermitage Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift typically cost for a Hermitage home?

Straight staircases — common in the split-level and colonial homes built here through the postwar and 60s-70s boom — usually run $2,500–$4,500 installed. Curved or custom rail work, which comes up more in the older Shenango-area homes with landings or turns, runs higher, often $8,000 and up. With Hermitage's median household income around $39,454, most customers ask about financing or the Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Foundation's Mini-Loan (0% interest, $100–$7,000) before committing to a full-price purchase.

Is a used or reconditioned stairlift a cheaper option?

Yes, and it's worth asking about if you're on a tighter budget. A reconditioned straight-rail unit can run several hundred to over a thousand dollars less than new, though warranty coverage is usually shorter. Given how many of Hermitage's roughly 7,849 housing units are older single-family homes with straight staircases, a reconditioned unit is often a realistic fit.

Does cost differ for rental properties versus owner-occupied homes?

Not in installation cost, but in who's eligible for help paying for it. With Hermitage's homeownership rate at 72.7%, most calls we get are from owners, but renters can still qualify for programs like the Community HealthChoices Waiver with a landlord's Letter of Consent — and with an 8.0% rental vacancy rate here, that comes up more than people expect.

A word from Luis
I've been out to more than a few homes near Shenango River Lake where the layout is straight out of the postwar and 60s-70s build boom — narrow straight staircases, tight landings, not much room to maneuver. Hermitage homeowners tend to own outright or close to it, 72.7% homeownership here, so when someone calls about a stairlift it's usually because they've paid off the house and aren't about to sell it just because the stairs got tough. Mercer County doesn't have a stairlift-specific county grant, but between Pennsylvania's Medicaid waivers and PATF's zero-interest loan, most of my Hermitage customers find a way to make the numbers work.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Hermitage is the largest city in Mercer County and the housing reflects that — colonials, ranches, condos, duplexes, and rural Victorians within the same zip code. There is no template stairlift for Hermitage, only a measurement, a rail design, and a written quote. We do all of that on a free in-home visit.

If you live in Hermitage, Sharon, Farrell, or anywhere in the Mercer County stretch and a flight of stairs is starting to feel like a daily decision, call us. Same-week installs are normal. The Marzano VA Clinic is in-city — HISA paperwork comes back fast for our region.
