Common Questions

Everything Grosse Pointe Woods Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI?

A straight stairlift in the Woods starts at $2,800 installed. Curved units for Lochmoor Club Tudors and Mack Plaza two-stories run $9,000 and up. Outdoor units start at $4,000. Final price depends on rail length, turns, and any pine-stringer reinforcement.

Is financing available for Grosse Pointe Woods homeowners?

Yes — financing starts at $79/month with approved credit. Application is 10 minutes during the in-home consultation, terms run through a national medical-equipment lender, no prepayment penalty.

Are stairlifts tax deductible in Michigan?

With a doctor's letter of medical necessity, the full installed cost qualifies as a federal medical expense deduction on Schedule A above the 7.5% AGI threshold. Michigan does not currently offer a separate state-level home-modification credit.

Does Grosse Pointe Woods require a permit for stairlift installation?

No permit is required for a standard residential stairlift in the Woods. If a Lochmoor Club Tudor needs structural reinforcement of an old pine stringer, we pull a Wayne County mechanical permit and handle it in-house.

A word from Luis

Grosse Pointe Woods is the youngest of the five Pointes — most of the city was built between 1945 and 1965, and that shapes every install we do here. The postwar colonials north of Vernier Road have wider tread widths than the prewar Park homes, but the stair stringers are often pine instead of oak, so we use through-bolts with backing plates instead of lag screws.

Two notes for Woods homeowners. First, the Lochmoor Club neighborhood has some genuinely narrow Tudor Revival staircases — 31 inches in places — and the slim-park option is non-negotiable on those. Second, lake-effect humidity off Lake St. Clair travels inland here further than people think, especially in November and March, so we still spec marine-grade fasteners on outdoor units even on Mack-side lots a mile from the water.

— Luis Ramírez, Grosse Pointe Woods
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Postwar Woods homes are easier to work in than prewar Park homes, but they have their own quirks — pine stringers, narrower Tudor stairs in Lochmoor, and the occasional drop ceiling that has to be cut around. We measure each one individually. Free in-home consult, written quote, 5-year warranty plus lifetime rail.

Wayne County permits are handled in-house when needed. Curved rail fabrication is 3-4 weeks from laser measurement to install day.
