The Specially Adapted Housing grant, up to $126,526 for FY2026, and the Special Home Adaptation grant, up to $25,350, don't name stairlifts either. What actually covers one is VA Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service, a separate medically-prescribed benefit with no fixed dollar cap — call 1-800-827-1000 and ask specifically for Prosthetics, not HISA.

And if your property qualifies as rural and you're 62 or older, USDA Section 504 offers grants up to $10,000 lifetime plus loans up to $40,000 at 1% interest — combined up to $50,000 — for health-and-safety home modifications, and most of Mendocino County meets the rural-eligibility test.
