Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Franklin County

Franklin County, ME

We serve all four Farmington villages — Farmington Historic District (Federal and Greek Revival homes with narrow original staircases), West Farmington (compact capes and cottages near the old earmuff factory site), Farmington Falls (mill-village houses along the Sandy River with steep interior stairs), and Fairbanks (rural homes on larger lots along Fairbanks Road). We also cover the UMF campus-adjacent neighborhoods off High and Academy Streets, where Victorian-era faculty homes often have curved landings, and the newer Temple Road corridor where ranch-style construction brings straight-run stairs but sometimes tight clearances. Franklin Memorial Hospital area homes, Titcomb Mountain ski-club neighborhoods, and Clearwater Lake properties round out our coverage zone. We go as far as Wilton, Jay, New Sharon, Chesterville, Rumford, and Skowhegan — no travel fees anywhere in Franklin County.

Straight

Straight Lift on Oak Treads in the Historic District

Historic District, ME Installed February 2026

The Morrisons live in an 1820s Federal on Middle Street with original wide-plank oak treads darkened by 200 years of foot traffic. Their straight staircase rises 14 feet from the front hall to the second-floor bedrooms. We bolted the rail directly to the oak treads — no wall drilling. The beige seat parks at the bottom landing, out of the way of the front door. Mrs.

Curved Rail Around a 90° Landing in Farmington Falls

Farmington Falls, ME Installed March 2026

The Theriaults' 1890s mill-village house has a staircase that rises six treads, hits a 90-degree left turn at a mid-stair landing, then continues seven more treads to the upper floor beneath a brass chandelier. We laser-measured the full run and fabricated a one-piece curved rail that follows the turn exactly. The brown seat parks at the top landing, letting Mr. Theriault step off onto the hallway without pivoting.

Straight

Compact Straight Install in a West Farmington Cape

West Farmington, ME Installed January 2026

The Hodgkins' 1950s cape on Perham Street has a narrow, enclosed staircase with stone-look tile treads and a small sideboard at the base. The straight rail mounts to the treads along the wall side, leaving enough clearance for a family member to walk up beside it. The brown seat parks at the bottom near the sideboard, out of the kitchen traffic path. Compact home, clean install — no trim removed, no drywall patched.

Outdoor

Weatherproof Outdoor Lift on a Temple Road Porch

Temple Road, ME Installed October 2025

The Richards' ranch off Temple Road has a stone-paved front porch with six exterior steps leading to the driveway. Mr. Richards, 82, could no longer manage the stone steps after a fall the previous winter. We installed an IP55-rated outdoor lift with a powder-coated rail, sealed motor housing, and DC battery backup. The cream-colored seat sits at the porch level.

Straight Lift on Carpeted Stairs in Fairbanks

Fairbanks, ME Installed December 2025

The Stanleys' 1960s home on Fairbanks Road has a carpeted straight staircase — 13 treads, beige pile that matches the stairlift upholstery. The rail mounts through the carpet into the sub-treads without tearing or replacing any carpet. The brown seat parks at the bottom near a tiled entryway floor. Mrs. Stanley, who has COPD, can now reach her bedroom upstairs without stopping to catch her breath halfway.

Platform Lift

Indoor Wheelchair Platform off High Street

High Street, ME Installed April 2026

The Carters' 1910s Victorian near the UMF campus has a straight staircase too narrow for a caregiver-assisted transfer from wheelchair to stairlift. We installed an inclined platform lift with a flat black deck and yellow safety edges. The platform folds up at the bottom, preserving hallway clearance, and carries Mr. Carter's wheelchair up to the second floor. Indoor-rated, white handrail, ramped entry — no caregiver lifting required.

Common Questions

Everything Farmington Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

How much does a stairlift cost in Farmington, Maine?

A straight stairlift in Farmington starts at $2,800, installed. Curved lifts start at $9,000 because the rail is custom-bent to your staircase after a laser measurement. Outdoor lifts start at $4,000, and heavy-duty models at $5,050. The price includes the rail, seat, labor, and a 5-year warranty. Most Farmington homes — whether a ranch on Temple Road or a Federal-era house in the Historic District — fall into one of these four categories. Financing runs $79/month.

Does Medicare cover stairlift costs for Farmington residents?

No. Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover stairlifts — they classify them as home modifications, not durable medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans in Maine may offer a home-safety benefit that covers a portion of the cost. Check your plan's evidence of coverage document for 'home modifications' or 'home safety devices.' Otherwise, MaineCare waivers and VA grants are the primary funding routes for Farmington residents.

What's the price difference between a straight and curved stairlift in Farmington?

A straight lift runs $2,800–$3,800 installed, depending on rail length and add-ons like a power swivel seat. Curved lifts start at $9,000 and can reach $13,000 for multi-turn staircases. The price gap comes from the custom fabrication: each curved rail is measured with a laser template on your exact stairs, then bent in a facility to match. Farmington's 19th-century homes — especially the Greek Revivals off High Street and the Victorians near UMF — almost always need a curved rail because of mid-stair landings and winder treads.

Are there any hidden fees I should know about for a Farmington stairlift install?

No. The quote you get at the in-home assessment is the price you pay. It covers the rail, seat, labor, cleanup, and a walk-through of the controls. We don't charge travel fees anywhere in Franklin County — Farmington, Wilton, Jay, New Sharon, Chesterville, Rumford, Skowhegan — same price. If your staircase needs a permit, we handle that paperwork. The only add-on you might consider is a power swivel seat ($300) if the top landing is tight.

A word from Luis

Farmington's housing stock runs the full timeline — 1790s Federal center-chimney colonials in the Historic District, Greek Revival side-halls along High and Academy, Victorian-era homes up near the UMF campus, and 1950s ranches spreading out toward Fairbanks and Temple Road. Each era comes with its own stair geometry. The 18-inch-wide winders in those Federal houses need a curved rail measured to the half-inch. A 1920s four-square on Middle Street might have a straight run we can knock out in a morning.

I've been installing stairlifts in Franklin County for over 15 years. I know which Farmington Falls mill houses have the steepest pitch, which West Farmington capes have the narrowest stairwells, and how the frost heaves on Sandy River floodplain homes shift door frames enough that you want the rail anchored to treads, not walls. If you're in Wilton, Jay, or New Sharon, we cover those too — same crew, no travel fees. Call the number on this page and I'll come measure your stairs myself.

— Luis Ramírez, Farmington
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Farmington winters run from November into April — and when the snow piles up on Cross Street and the temperature drops below zero, a stairlift with a DC battery backup that keeps running through a power outage stops being a nice-to-have. Our installs in Franklin County handle the freeze-thaw cycle just fine: the rail bolts to the treads, not the wall, so seasonal shifting doesn't throw off the track.

Whether you're on a fixed income in a West Farmington cape, managing a curved staircase in a Historic District Greek Revival, or need an outdoor lift for a Temple Road porch with stone steps, we'll measure and quote the same day we hear from you. Call or fill out the form — Luis or a member of his team will be at your door within 48 hours.
