Straight Stairlift

Bestseller

The reliable choice for Elkhart's post-war colonials and Dunlap split-level ranches. More than 70% of our Elkhart County installs are straight-rail units — and for good reason. The two-story colonials north of the river and the 1960s side-entry homes near Dunlap almost always have a clean, straight run. The rail bolts into existing treads, the seat and footrest fold flush to the wall, and the LiFePO4 battery backup keeps the lift running through Indiana ice storms without missing a cycle. Most installs complete in under three hours.

Starting at $2,400 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls

Compared to Alternatives

vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.

Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Elkhart County

Elkhart County, IN

From the Rice Street corridor to the post-war colonials near Beardsley Avenue, from the Christiana Creek side streets to the modest two-stories in the Osceola border area, our team has measured stairs in every part of this city. We know which Elkhart blocks have the low-ceiling stair runs that require a slim-profile rail, which sections near downtown have the original 1940s newel posts worth preserving, and which newer construction off County Road 17 has the wide, open staircases where install takes under three hours. We also serve Simonton Lake, Dunlap, Goshen, Bristol, and the St. Joseph County edge communities regularly enough that those homeowners don't wait on a tech driving in from Indianapolis.

1952 North Side colonial — rail matched to original oak banister

North Side, IN Installed March 2026

A 1952 colonial in Elkhart's North Side neighborhood with original oak treads and a banister the family had refinished twice in 40 years. The homeowner's first question: 'Will it damage the wood?' We matched the rail finish to the existing oak tone, bolted into the treads only, and left the banister untouched. The beige seat folds flat at the bottom landing, and the warm wood tones blend with the dark hardwood staircase. The Hartman family's granddaughter came over two days later and didn't notice anything had changed — until Grandpa demonstrated.

Dunlap split-level — curved rail with 90° turn at the upper landing

Dunlap, IN Installed February 2026

A 1970s split-level in Dunlap with a 90° turn at the upper landing and a half-wall balustrade the family wanted to keep intact. Mrs. Bontrager's occupational therapist had specifically requested a swivel-exit seat at the top so she steps off onto the hallway floor, not the top tread. We laser-scanned the staircase, fabricated a curved rail that bends around the half-wall through the 90° turn, and installed a brown-upholstered swivel seat that parks at the upper floor landing. The chandelier above the stairway hangs exactly where it always has. Framed family photos on the wall stayed in place through the entire install.

Downtown Elkhart 1940s bungalow — compact rail under low clearance

Downtown Elkhart, IN Installed January 2026

A 1940s bungalow two blocks off Main Street — original narrow stair run, stone-tile treads, and a wooden sideboard at the base of the stairs that the family refused to move. Every inch mattered. We fitted the narrowest rail profile in our catalog with a brown-upholstered seat that tucks tight against the wall. The compact footrest folds flat to clear the sideboard, and the masonry anchors on the tile treads carry the same load rating as standard wood-screw mounts. Mrs. Schlabach had been avoiding the second floor for four months. She went up on her own the same afternoon we finished.

Simonton Lake ranch — outdoor lift on stone-paved front entry

Simonton Lake, IN Installed December 2025

A ranch-style home near Simonton Lake with a raised front entry, four concrete porch steps, and a rough stone-paved landing exposed to Indiana's full freeze-thaw cycle. The homeowner's father had been entering through the side garage for over a year because the front steps were too much after his knee replacement. We installed a weather-sealed outdoor rail with a cream seat, cold-weather-rated components, and a sealed motor housing built to handle snow, ice, and road salt spray. The stone paving required heavy-duty anchors rated for exterior masonry. He used the front door the day we finished.

Christiana Creek area — straight rail on carpeted stairs

Christiana Creek, IN Installed November 2025

A 1960s home near the Christiana Creek corridor with 13 carpeted treads and a landing area at the mid-level. Mr. Weaver's physical therapist had flagged stair use as the highest-risk activity in his daily routine after a stroke. We installed a straight rail with a brown-upholstered seat that blends with the carpet tones. The seat parks at the landing, and the swivel-exit places him on the tiled floor at the bottom rather than on the stair edge. The wall-mounted light switches stayed accessible with the rail folded flat.

Platform Lift

Rice Street corridor — indoor wheelchair platform lift

Rice Street, IN Installed October 2025

A 1950s home in the Rice Street corridor where Mr. Coleman uses a power wheelchair after a spinal cord injury. The four-step rise from the side entry to the main living level had required his wife to help him transfer out of the chair and navigate each step individually. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip deck, yellow high-visibility safety edges on the platform and upper gate, and a white handrail along the wall. The warm terracotta-painted walls of the stairway frame the lift, and the window at the landing provides natural light. Mr. Coleman rolls from the entry directly into the living room without leaving his chair.

Common Questions

Everything Elkhart Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Elkhart right now?

Straight rails in the two-story colonials and split-levels common across Elkhart County run $2,800 to $5,500 fully installed. Curved rails — needed when your staircase has a turn or mid-landing — run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is fabricated to your exact geometry. Outdoor models for covered porches or raised entries run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote covers the rail, seat, battery backup, installation labor, and the first service visit. Nothing is added afterward.

Are your prices competitive with what I'd find in South Bend or Fort Wayne?

Equipment costs are the same across Indiana — we don't charge more because you're in Elkhart versus a larger market. What can shift slightly is labor time: older homes in the Christiana Creek area sometimes have non-standard stair widths or low-clearance runs that add 30-60 minutes on install day. We tell you that upfront, not on invoice day. The quote you receive is the price you pay.

Do you offer any price break for straightforward installs?

The base price already reflects a standard straight-rail install: two to three hours of labor, standard seat, battery backup, remotes, and one training walk-through. If your staircase is textbook — straight run, standard width, no electrical issues — your quote lands at the lower end of the $2,800–$5,500 range. We won't pad it. Elkhart homeowners don't have patience for inflated quotes, and neither do we.

Can I rent instead of buy?

Yes. We carry a rental program designed for post-surgery recovery or short-term mobility limits — monthly flat rate, includes maintenance, and we remove it when you're done. If you later decide to keep the unit, we apply a portion of rent paid toward purchase. This is popular with Elkhart families recovering from hip or knee replacement at Beacon Health System or Goshen Hospital before a permanent decision is made.

A word from Luis

Elkhart is a working town — people here know quality work when they see it and don't have patience for anything less. Most of the homes I see are post-war colonials off Beardsley Avenue or split-levels near the Christiana Creek corridor, built in the 1950s and 1960s by families who never planned on needing a stairlift. Low clearances, narrow runs, old electrical panels — I've seen every version of it.

The challenge in downtown Elkhart is the 1940s bungalows: compact stair geometry, low overhead, sometimes a half-wall instead of a proper banister. We fit the narrowest rail profile we stock and test the full ride cycle before we ever call the job done. That is what this county expects, and it is what we deliver.

— Luis Ramírez, Elkhart
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

If your parent is avoiding the stairs in their Elkhart home — sleeping in the recliner, skipping the upstairs bedroom, relying on a family member to carry things between floors — that is the signal. A straight rail in most post-war colonials and Dunlap split-levels installs in under four hours. A curved rail for a mid-landing turn takes one afternoon after fabrication. By evening, the stairs are just stairs again.

Call for a free in-home assessment. Luis measures your staircase, answers every question, and leaves you with a written quote honored for 30 days. No sales pitch. No follow-up pressure. Over 180 Elkhart County families have already taken that step.
