Stairlift Service Across Chittenden County

Chittenden County, VT

From the steep Victorian staircases in the Hill Section — where three-story homes built in the 1880s line South Willard and College Streets with narrow oak treads worn by a century of use — to the ranch-style homes in the New North End built during the 1960s suburban expansion along North Avenue, our crew has measured staircases across every Burlington neighborhood. Old North End triple-deckers have tight, steep stairways that demand precise rail placement and compact folding seats. Five Sisters homes along King, Maple, and Howard Streets feature wide center-hall staircases with decorative newel posts that our slim-profile rails clear without contact. South End condominiums near Pine Street have modern open-tread designs where our mounting hardware fastens through engineered flooring. The Lakeside neighborhood near Oakledge Park has mid-century homes with standard straight runs and carpeted treads — our fastest installs.

Straight

Hill Section Victorian — straight rail on original 1889 oak treads

Hill Section, VT Installed March 2026

A three-story Victorian on South Willard Street with original oak treads worn smooth by 135 years of use. Mrs. Whitfield had been sleeping in the parlor for a month after hip replacement surgery at UVM Medical Center because the steep second-floor stairs were off-limits. We drove out, measured the 15-foot run with a laser, confirmed the century-old oak could accept the mounting hardware without splitting, and installed the same week. The brown-upholstered seat parks flush against the wainscoting at the bottom. Mrs. Whitfield slept in her own bed that night.

Old North End triple-decker — curved rail through a 180° landing turn

Old North End, VT Installed February 2026

A 1920s triple-decker on North Street with eight steep steps from the entry to the first landing, a 180-degree switchback, then nine more steps to the second-floor apartment. Mr. Morrison taught at Burlington High School for 30 years and has lived in this building since 1991. We laser-scanned the full run on the first visit, fabricated a single curved rail that carries him from the entry to his apartment without stopping, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the top. His VA provider at White River Junction wrote the HISA prescription, and the grant covered $6,800 of the cost. One ride, zero transfers.

New North End ranch — straight rail on carpeted stairs near entryway

New North End, VT Installed January 2026

A 1960s ranch on North Avenue with carpeted stairs and a standard 36-inch-wide staircase leading to the finished basement. The brown-upholstered seat sits at the top of the stairs next to the family's coat closet. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage to the pile. Folded, the seat and rail take up 11 inches, leaving 25 inches of clear passage. The grandchildren who visit from Colchester every Sunday run past it without a second glance.

Lakeside home — outdoor lift on icy front porch steps

Lakeside, VT Installed December 2025

A home near Oakledge Park with six concrete front steps that iced over every winter from November through March. Mr. Fletcher had already fallen twice on the steps before his daughter called us. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat sits at the bottom, ready when he comes home from errands. Every component is freeze-rated to minus 20 degrees, UV-stabilized for Vermont's intense summer sun, and carries an IP55 seal against snow, ice, and the moisture that drifts off Lake Champlain. Lake Champlain is freshwater, so salt-air corrosion is not a factor, but we spec corrosion-resistant rail coatings to handle de-icing salt tracked onto the steps. The battery backup kept the lift running through a two-day ice storm outage last February.

Five Sisters home — straight rail on wide center-hall staircase

Five Sisters, VT Installed November 2025

A restored home on King Street in the Five Sisters neighborhood with a wide center-hall staircase and decorative newel posts. Mrs. Kim's daughter called on Monday, we measured Tuesday afternoon, and the install crew arrived Thursday morning. The Choices for Care waiver through Vermont Medicaid covered the full cost after a medical necessity assessment. The slim-profile rail clears the ornate newel post at the bottom by three inches, and the swivel seat at the top lets Mrs. Kim step off onto the upstairs landing facing the hallway. She was riding it by Thursday evening.

Platform Lift

South End home — inclined wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

South End, VT Installed October 2025

A multi-level home in the South End where Mr. Price uses a power wheelchair full-time after a service-connected spinal injury. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift along the indoor stairway: a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges on all thresholds, white handrails, and a keyed lockout so visiting grandchildren cannot activate it unsupervised. The HISA grant covered $6,800 and the Choices for Care waiver covered the remaining balance. Mr. Price rolls onto the platform, presses one button, and rides the incline to the upper floor without leaving his chair.

Common Questions

Everything Burlington Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Burlington, VT?

Straight rails in standard Burlington homes — the ranches in the New North End, the condos along Pine Street, the postwar Cape Cods in Lakeside — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for most Hill Section Victorians and Old North End triple-deckers with landing turns, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised front entries and porches run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are Burlington stairlift prices different from Montpelier or Rutland?

Equipment prices are the same across Vermont — we do not inflate or discount based on metro size. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: narrow treads in Hill Section Victorians, steep triple-decker stairways in the Old North End, and the freeze-rated lubricant we spec on every Vermont install to handle sub-zero winters. Those are baseline specs, not upcharges. We list every line item on the written quote.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving to a single-story home?

Moving costs in Chittenden County — real estate commission, closing costs, packing, new deposits — typically run $20,000 to $40,000 given current Burlington home values. A straight stairlift installs in under four hours for $2,800 to $5,500 and lets you stay in the home you've lived in for decades, in the neighborhood you know, near your doctors at UVM Medical Center. For most Burlington families, the stairlift costs less than the real estate commission alone.

Do you offer financing for Burlington homeowners?

Yes. We offer 12-month interest-free financing and extended terms up to 60 months starting at $79 per month for a standard straight install. Approval takes minutes during the in-home visit. We also help you stack financing with VA HISA, Vermont's home modification assistance, or Chittenden County senior services so you pay the lowest possible out-of-pocket.

A word from Luis

Burlington calls usually come from families in the Hill Section — a retired UVM professor whose knees finally gave out after decades of climbing those steep Victorian staircases, a widow on South Willard Street whose children in Shelburne keep asking her to move but she won't leave the house where she raised them, a veteran in the New North End whose VA provider at White River Junction wrote the HISA prescription last month.

I drive out, measure the staircase, and hand you a written quote honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
