Straight Stairlift

Most common · From $2,850

The workhorse of Buffalo’s two-story homes — from Elmwood Village Victorians to South Buffalo bungalows. Over 65% of the stairlifts we install in Erie County are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the cold-rated battery backup keeps you moving through the next lake-effect power outage. Most Buffalo installs wrap in under four hours — we schedule tight in winter because nobody wants their front door open longer than necessary.

Starting at $2,850 installed

Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Erie County

Erie County, NY

From the Victorians of Elmwood Village — named one of America’s 10 Great Neighborhoods by the American Planning Association — where preserving original millwork in homes built between 1880 and 1920 drives every installation decision, to the Italianate preservation district of Allentown where 1860s banisters are part of the architecture, to Parkside’s Olmsted-designed streets near the Darwin Martin House, our team has mapped every staircase challenge in Buffalo. We know which North Buffalo doubles have enclosed rear stairs too narrow for a standard seat, which South Buffalo bungalows need a tight-turn rail to clear the kitchen doorway, which Broadway-Fillmore doubles have original stair geometry only a custom-curved rail can follow, and which Black Rock homes along the Niagara River need marine-grade outdoor hardware because lake-effect moisture corrodes zinc fasteners in two seasons. We also staff dedicated coverage across Erie County from Lackawanna to Kenmore to Cheektowaga.

Elmwood Village Victorian — straight rail color-matched to original oak

Elmwood Village, NY Installed March 2026

A 1905 Victorian on Elmwood Avenue with original quarter-sawn oak treads and a banister the family had maintained for 120 years. Mrs. Fitzgerald was direct: nothing touches the wood except the stair itself. Luis brought finish samples on the first visit, color-matched the rail to the oak grain precisely, and bolted the track into the tread nosings without grazing a spindle. The slim-profile rail parks flush at the upper landing. Three neighbors on the Elmwood Village Association walked through the house at a holiday gathering and didn’t notice the lift until she demonstrated it.

Allentown Italianate — curved rail past the 1868 newel post

Allentown, NY Installed February 2026

A registered Allentown Italianate from 1868 with a 90° landing turn at the second floor and a carved newel post that no one was permitted to touch. Two national companies quoted a two-lift solution because of the landing. Luis laser-scanned the geometry during the first visit, fabricated a single curved rail that threads the 90° turn and delivers one continuous ride from foyer to upper hall, and installed in a single afternoon. The chair swivels at the top so Mrs. Kowalski steps off onto the hallway floor. Her book group uses the parlor every Thursday — the lift was mentioned once.

South Buffalo cottage — straight rail on stone-tread stairs beside the sideboard

South Buffalo, NY Installed January 2026

A compact 1930s South Buffalo cottage with stone-tread stairs and a wooden sideboard in the hallway that Mrs. Jankowski refused to move. The entry is tight — the staircase sits right next to the living room furniture with a potted plant on the cabinet beside the bottom step. Luis measured the clearance on the first visit: three inches between the folded seat and the sideboard. The slim-profile rail bolts into the stone treads, the seat folds flat against the wall, and the brown upholstery blends with the warm cottage interior. The traditional feel of the home is completely preserved.

Black Rock front stoop — outdoor lift on stone-paved entry steps

Black Rock, NY Installed November 2025

A 1920s Black Rock home three blocks from the Niagara River with a raised front porch and rough natural stone paving at the entry. Mr. Nowak — a retired steelworker — had been entering through the garage side door since the first lake-effect event in October. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat sits at the bottom of the porch steps on the stone-paved landing. Every component is cold-rated to -20°F with ice drainage channels machined into the rail track and marine-grade 316-stainless fasteners. The covered porch keeps the worst of the snow off the upper station, and the weather seal on the motor housing has held through three consecutive Western New York winters without a service call.

North Buffalo double — straight rail on carpeted stairs at the landing

North Buffalo, NY Installed January 2026

A two-family North Buffalo home with wall-to-wall carpet on the stairs and a tiled floor at the bottom landing. Mr. Williams needed the lift after a double knee replacement at Buffalo General Medical Center — the surgeon’s discharge notes said no full weight-bearing on stairs for eight weeks. The brown-upholstered seat blends with the carpet tones on the treads, and the rail bolts through the carpet into the stair structure beneath. The light switches on the wall beside the landing stay fully accessible with the seat parked. His physical therapist from Kaleida Health came by the following week and said it was the safest home setup she’d seen post-surgery in 15 years of practice in Buffalo.

Platform Lift

Broadway-Fillmore double — indoor wheelchair platform lift for full-time chair user

Broadway-Fillmore, NY Installed October 2025

A 1905 Polish-heritage double on Fillmore Avenue where Sra. Vásquez uses a wheelchair full-time and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip platform, high-visibility yellow safety edges around the perimeter, and a white handrail along the indoor stairway. The orange-tinted walls of the stairwell and the window at the landing give the space warm natural light. Luis coordinated every detail in Spanish. Her daughter called the following week to schedule the same platform lift for the downstairs tenant in the same Buffalo building.

Common Questions

Everything Buffalo Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Buffalo right now?

Straight rails in standard Buffalo homes — the two-story Victorians in Elmwood Village, the bungalows in South Buffalo, the doubles in North Buffalo — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you’ll need for most Allentown Italianates, Parkside split-landings, and the three-story Elmwood Victorians with a 180° mid-landing turn, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor and cold-weather-sealed models for front stoops and porch steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, cold-rated battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Buffalo than downstate?

Equipment prices are the same across New York State — we don’t inflate quotes for Delaware District addresses or discount for Lovejoy. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: preservation-district millwork in Allentown, three-story Victorian runs in Elmwood Village that require extended rail sections, and outdoor installs that need ice drainage channels and heated rail covers for winter. We tell you the line items upfront. No surprise surcharges.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Buffalo assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and has walked dozens of West Side families through the full paperwork in their preferred language. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

Any hidden fees for landlord or multi-unit buildings?

Our quote includes the reasonable-accommodation paperwork we prepare for landlords and property managers — we’ve worked with dozens of Buffalo’s two-family and three-family buildings across North Buffalo, University Heights, and Kensington-Bailey. What can add cost (rarely) is when a landlord requires a structural engineer’s letter for a three-story run or when the Buffalo Building Department flags a unit for an electrical inspection. If that happens, we tell you before we start — not after.

A word from Luis

Most Buffalo families call me after a winter has already taken its toll — a fall on icy front steps in South Buffalo, a parent who hasn’t been upstairs since November because the cold makes her knees lock, a son in Charlotte calling about his father alone in a three-story Victorian on Elmwood that hasn’t had a working handrail since the Reagan administration.

My job is simple: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
