Harmar Stairlift Review (2026): Heavy-Duty & Outdoor Specialist
Harmar is not the brand most people have heard of. What they have is the only true 600 lb bariatric stairlift on the US residential market, the best-proven outdoor unit in hurricane conditions, and a factory in Sarasota, Florida, that shipped parts through four named storms without missing a delivery window.
Company background
Harmar is headquartered in Sarasota, Florida. They manufacture stairlifts, vertical platform lifts, and vehicle lifts. The Sarasota location is not incidental — Florida is the largest residential stairlift market in the US. Harmar designs and tests for the conditions 20 miles from the factory: salt air, 95°F heat with 90% humidity, hurricane-force winds, and storm-surge flooding.
Harmar sells through authorized dealers. Smaller network than Bruno, but well-distributed in the Southeast, Gulf Coast, and Sun Belt.
The 2026 model lineup
Pinnacle SL600: premium straight rail
| Capacity | 350 lb |
| Speed | 20 ft/min |
| Folded width | 10.5″ (narrowest premium) |
| Battery backup | Up to 60 cycles |
| Drive | Nylon polymer worm drive (self-locking) |
| Max rail | Up to 70 feet |
| Installed price | $3,500–$5,200 |
Two standouts: 10.5″ folded width is the narrowest in the premium category. 60-cycle battery backup is 3x Bruno’s 20+ cycles — runs for days during power outages.
Pinnacle SL600HD: the 600 lb bariatric king
| Capacity | 600 lb |
| Seat width | 22″ (widest residential) |
| Drive | Reinforced worm drive, uprated motor |
| Rail | Reinforced with heavy-duty mounting hardware |
| Installed price | $5,000–$7,500 (40–50% above standard) |
The only residential stairlift on the US market above 400 lb. Next closest: Bruno Elite at 400 lb. For riders over 375 lb fully dressed, this is the only option. We install 15–20 SL600HD units per year, primarily Southeast and Midwest.
May require structural reinforcement of stair treads for the higher load. A qualified installer will assess before confirming.
Summit SL350OD: the outdoor workhorse
| Capacity | 350 lb |
| Temp rating | 0°F to 125°F |
| Rail | Extruded aluminum, marine-grade coating |
| Seat | Marine-grade vinyl with weatherproof cover |
| Motor | Top-mounted (above flood line) |
| Installed price | $4,000–$6,800 |
Designed from the ground up as an outdoor product, not adapted from indoor. The top-mounted motor keeps electronics above the waterline during flooding — Florida engineering for Florida problems.
RPL400 Highlander: vertical platform lift
| Capacity | 600 lb (wheelchair + rider) |
| Max lift height | 53 inches |
| Platform | Non-skid with auto-folding ramp |
| Indoor/Outdoor | Both (weather-resistant) |
| Installed price | $6,500–$12,000 |
Not a stairlift. A vertical lift for wheelchair users at raised entries. The right product when the rider cannot transfer from wheelchair to seat.
Harmar does not make a curved stairlift. For curved staircases: Bruno CRE-2110, Handicare Freecurve, or Stannah Siena 260. Alternatively, the RPL400 can serve as an alternative by lifting vertically between floors.
The hurricane market advantage
Field-proven through four named storms. Every unit continued operating post-storm with no component replacement beyond battery check. The top-mounted motor keeps electronics above flood line.
- Salt air: Aluminum rail with marine-grade coating outlasts powder-coated steel
- Moisture: Top-mounted motor + sealed connectors prevent intrusion
- UV: Marine-grade vinyl rated for Florida sun exposure (highest UV in continental US)
- Storms: Stair-mounted design (not wall-mounted) survives wind events
After Hurricane Ian (2022), Harmar resumed shipping within 72 hours. Most competitors took 2–3 weeks.
Warranty breakdown
Harmar’s 3-year parts warranty gives you 12–15 months more than Bruno (2 years), Handicare (2 years), or Stannah (27 months). The 1-year labor warranty is also the most generous — Bruno covers 30 days.

Who should buy a Harmar
Buy a Harmar if
- Rider over 375 lb — SL600HD is the only option
- Outdoor stairs fully exposed to weather (coastal/hurricane)
- Longest parts warranty matters (3 years)
- Power outages frequent (60-cycle backup)
- Need vertical platform lift (RPL400)
- Hurricane market — parts ship through storms
Do not buy if

- Indoor ride quality and noise matter most (Bruno/Handicare superior)
- Aesthetics and customization important (Stannah/Handicare have more options)
- Rider under 300 lb wanting broadest dealer support (Bruno)
