Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Athens County

Athens County, OH

The brick colonials and Cape Cods along Richland Avenue and University Terrace carry the steep interior stairs and original hardwood treads of mid-century Ohio University faculty housing. The Plains, ten minutes west on US-33, runs to split-level ranches with carpeted treads and mid-landing turns. Chauncey and Nelsonville have coal-era worker cottages with narrow stairwells that need slim-profile rails. West State Street corridor homes from the 1940s-1960s and the Mill Street two-stories near OU account for most straight-rail installs. The hillside properties along Stimson Avenue above the Hocking River are where our outdoor weather-sealed lifts dominate.

Richland Avenue colonial — straight rail on original hardwood oak treads

Richland Avenue, OH Installed March 2026

A 1952 brick colonial on Richland Avenue with original oak treads and a walnut banister the family has kept since the house was built for an Ohio University mathematics professor. After Mr. Henderson fell on the second-floor landing last winter, his daughter drove up from Columbus and called us the same afternoon.

The Plains split-level — curved rail through 90° upper-landing turn

The Plains, OH Installed February 2026

A 1968 split-level in The Plains with a 90° turn at the upper landing and seven steps to the bedroom level. Luis laser-scanned the full run, fabricated a curved rail that threads past the upper newel post, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the top so he steps onto level flooring instead of the top tread. The brown seat parks at the upper landing.

University Terrace, OH Installed January 2026

A 1948 cottage-style Cape Cod on University Terrace with light stone-tile treads at the entry stairs, a tight stairwell, and a wooden sideboard at the foot of the stairs. Dr. Branson, retired from OU botany, uses a cane after a knee replacement. Luis drilled anchor points with masonry bits into the stone treads and threaded the rail past the sideboard with two inches of clearance.

Mr. Warren is a Vietnam-era veteran who qualified for a HISA grant of $6,800 through the Athens VA Clinic at 88 North Plains Road. We prefilled VA Form 10-0103, the prescription came back within four weeks, and installation was authorized ten days later.

West State Street ranch — straight rail over wall-to-wall carpet

West State Street, OH Installed November 2025

A 1971 ranch on the West State Street corridor with wall-to-wall carpet on every tread, where Mrs. Caldwell needed the install done before Thanksgiving so her husband could get upstairs for the holiday. Carpeted treads need longer anchor bolts driven through the carpet and pad into the subfloor. Luis used a template jig that marks every hole without cutting or pulling back the carpet.

Mill Street, OH Installed October 2025

A two-story pre-war home on Mill Street near Ohio University where Mr. Patterson, a retired Athens County school bus driver, uses a power wheelchair full-time after a stroke two years ago. Common Questions

Everything Athens Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Athens County right now?

Straight rails for standard Athens homes — the brick colonials on Richland Avenue, the Cape Cods near University Terrace, the ranches out in The Plains — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, needed for split-levels with mid-landing turns in The Plains and older Nelsonville homes with tight upper turns, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for hillside porches along Stimson Avenue and the Hocking River ridge run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are stairlift prices higher in rural Athens County than in Columbus?

Equipment prices are identical whether you live on Richland Avenue or in Columbus. We do not charge travel surcharges for Athens, Hocking, or Meigs County addresses. What can add modest cost is unusual install conditions — narrow coal-era stairwells in Nelsonville or Chauncey that require a slim-profile rail, or hillside homes where outdoor anchoring into sloped concrete needs extra engineering. We tell you the line items during the assessment, not after we have started work.

Is a refurbished stairlift worth considering for an Athens home?

For straight staircases, a certified refurbished unit can save 30 to 40% — we carry factory-reconditioned straight rails with new upholstery, new batteries, and a 2-year warranty. For curved rails, refurbished is almost never possible because each rail is custom-manufactured to a specific staircase. If your Athens County home has a standard straight run, ask about refurbished inventory during the assessment.

Do you offer financing for Athens-area homeowners?

Yes — three lending partners with 0% APR for qualified buyers and low fixed-rate plans from $79/month. The application is a soft credit pull, takes about four minutes, and approval is usually instant. Many Athens families combine financing with the IRS medical deduction or a partial HISA grant to bring the net monthly cost down further.

A word from Luis

Athens families call after the same thing happens every time — a parent who taught at Ohio University for thirty years is suddenly afraid of the stairs in the brick colonial they have owned since the 1970s. Or a widow in The Plains whose children moved to Columbus and cannot check on her every day. I drive out within 24 hours, measure once with a laser, and hand over a written quote good for 30 days. No pressure. En español si lo prefiere.
