Stairlift Service Across Clarke County

Clarke County, GA

From the tree-canopied Victorians of Boulevard — where heart-pine risers and quarter-sawn oak banisters predate the state building code — to the 1920s Colonial Revivals of Cobbham along Milledge Circle, where the conversation is always about preserving original millwork, our team has measured staircases in every historic district Athens has. We know which Five Points craftsman bungalows have the raised front porches that need an outdoor-rated lift, which Normaltown cottages off Prince Avenue have the narrow stairwells that require a slim-profile rail, and which Pulaski Heights ranches from the 1970s have carpeted treads that take longer anchor bolts driven through pad and subfloor. For homes in Watkinsville, Winterville, and Bogart, we staff the same next-day assessment — no travel surcharge anywhere in Clarke, Oconee, or Madison counties.

Cobbham Colonial Revival — straight rail on original hardwood oak treads

Cobbham, GA Installed March 2026

A 1928 Colonial Revival on Milledge Circle in the Cobbham Historic District with original quarter-sawn oak treads and a walnut banister the family has maintained for almost a century. Mrs. Thornton taught English literature at Clarke Central for 32 years and retired into the same house where she raised three children. After a fall on the second-floor landing last December, her daughter drove up from Watkinsville and called us the same afternoon. We bolted a straight rail into the oak treads without touching the banister, the newel post, or the plaster walls.

1910 Boulevard Victorian — curved rail past the upper landing turn

Boulevard, GA Installed February 2026

A 1910 Victorian in the Boulevard Historic District with a 90-degree turn at the upper landing and original heart-pine risers that the Caldwells were clear about protecting. The staircase had settled unevenly over 116 years — the third tread sat almost half an inch lower than the second, and the landing itself had a slight pitch toward the window wall. We laser-scanned the full run, fabricated a curved rail that threads past the upper newel post and compensates for the settlement with shimmed brackets at treads three and four.

1940s Normaltown cottage — straight rail on stone-and-pine treads

Normaltown, GA Installed January 2026

A 1942 cottage off Prince Avenue in Normaltown with a narrow staircase, stone-finished lower treads transitioning to pine uppers, and a retired UGA botany professor who refused to give up his second-floor study. Dr. Parrish has used a cane since a hip fracture two years ago and the 14-step climb had become a twice-daily ordeal. The lower three treads are a poured-stone composite original to the house — we drilled anchor points into the stone with masonry bits and transitioned to standard wood-tread mounts for the upper eleven steps.

Five Points raised porch — weather-sealed lift on stone paving entry steps

Five Points, GA Installed December 2025

A 1935 craftsman bungalow near the Five Points intersection with a raised front porch, six exterior stone-paved entry steps, and a magnolia canopy that drops leaves and moisture onto everything below. Mr. Warren is a Korean War-era veteran who qualified for an HISA grant through the Athens VA Clinic on Highway 29 South — we prefilled VA Form 10-0103, the prescription came back from his Augusta VA provider within four weeks, and installation was authorized ten days later. The lift is sealed against North Georgia humidity, UV-coated for the summer sun, and carries a leaf-guard brush on the rail track.

1970s Pulaski Heights ranch — straight rail over wall-to-wall carpet

Pulaski Heights, GA Installed November 2025

A 1973 split-foyer ranch in Pulaski Heights with wall-to-wall carpet on every tread and a homeowner who wanted the installation done before her husband came home from St. Mary’s Hospital after back surgery. Carpeted treads require longer anchor bolts driven through the carpet and pad into the subfloor beneath — we use a template jig that marks every hole without cutting or pulling back the carpet. Mrs. Gaines called on a Monday, we measured Tuesday morning, and the rail was bolted and tested by Thursday afternoon.

Platform Lift

Milledge Avenue colonial — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Milledge Avenue, GA Installed October 2025

A 1952 colonial on Milledge Avenue where Mr. Dixon, a retired Clarke County school administrator, uses a power wheelchair full-time after a stroke three years ago. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair from the main floor to the bedroom level without transferring. We installed an indoor vertical platform lift with high-visibility yellow safety edges on the platform and gate, a non-slip deck surface rated for power chairs up to 750 lbs combined, and automatic safety stops at both levels.

Common Questions

Everything Athens Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in the Athens-Clarke County area right now?

Straight rails for standard Athens homes — the two-story colonials in Cobbham, the cottages in Normaltown, the ranches out toward Watkinsville — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you’ll need for most pre-1920 Boulevard and Milledge Avenue Victorians with upper-landing turns, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised front porches across Five Points and Cobbham run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices higher for homes inside Athens historic districts?

Equipment prices are the same whether you’re in the Boulevard Historic District or a 1970s ranch in Winterville. What can add modest cost is when your home falls inside one of Clarke County’s Historic Preservation Commission zones — Boulevard, Cobbham, Milledge Avenue — and we’re adding an outdoor lift on a contributing structure, which requires an HPC Certificate of Appropriateness application. We prepare that application at no charge. Interior installs never require HPC review.

Why do curved rails cost more than straight ones in Athens’ older homes?

A straight rail is manufactured in standard lengths and cut to fit on-site. A curved rail is custom-fabricated from a digital laser scan of your exact staircase — every angle, every tread depth, every landing turn is unique to your home. The fabrication takes 10-14 days and the rail arrives as a single piece that matches your geometry within 1mm. That engineering is why curved rails run $9,000-$15,000 versus $2,800-$5,500 for straight. In Athens, about 30% of our installs are curved because of the pre-1920 staircases with upper-landing turns in Boulevard, Cobbham, and the Milledge Avenue district.

Do you offer financing for Athens-area homeowners?

Yes — three lending partners with 0% APR for qualified buyers and low fixed-rate plans from $79/month. Application is a soft credit pull (no hit to your score), takes about four minutes, and approval is usually instant. Many Athens families combine financing with the IRS medical deduction or a partial HISA grant to bring the net monthly cost down further. We walk you through the math during the free assessment — on paper, not a screen.

I drive out the same week you call, measure everything with a laser, and hand you a written quote good for 30 days. No pressure. No upsell.
