Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Baltimore County

Baltimore County, MD

From the 1940s–1960s brick rowhomes along Sulphur Spring Road and Shelbourne Road — where steep, narrow stairwells with original hardwood treads define every install — to the 1950s cape cods in Halethorpe with their half-story bedroom stairs and low headers, from the split-levels in Relay and Elkridge to the brick colonials in Lansdowne with formal entry foyers, our team has mapped every housing type in southwest Baltimore County. We know which Oak Crest Village retirees qualify for Maryland Accessible Homes grants, which Violetville rowhomes have the unheated stairwells that need cold-rated batteries, and which Catonsville colonials have the 90° landing turns that require custom curved rails. We cover the entire southwest corridor — Arbutus, Halethorpe, Relay, Lansdowne, Catonsville, Elkridge — without travel fees.

Sulphur Spring Road rowhome — straight rail on original hardwood treads

Arbutus, MD Installed March 2026

A 1952 brick rowhome on Sulphur Spring Road with original hardwood stairs and a 28-inch-wide stairwell. Mr. Kowalski is a retired Bethlehem Steel worker whose knees gave out after 30 years of shift work. He had been sleeping on the living room sofa for three months. We installed a compact-profile straight rail on the original treads — no wall contact, no banister damage. The rail is 11 feet, the stairwell is tight, and the folded chair clears the wall by three inches. He rides it twice a day and sleeps in his own bed.

Lansdowne colonial — curved rail around a 90° landing turn

Lansdowne, MD Installed February 2026

A 1960s brick colonial in Lansdowne with a formal entry foyer and a 90° turn at the mid-landing. Six steps from the foyer to the landing, a turn, then seven more to the upstairs hallway. A straight rail was impossible. We laser-scanned the staircase, fabricated a curved rail that carries from the entry to the upper hallway in one ride, and added a swivel-exit seat at the top. The Maryland Accessible Homes for Seniors grant covered $15,000 of the installation cost.

Halethorpe cape cod — straight rail on steep half-story bedroom stairs

Halethorpe, MD Installed January 2026

A 1955 cape cod in Halethorpe with steep half-story bedroom stairs and a low header at the top where the roofline drops. Mrs. DiAngelo had stopped using the upstairs bedrooms entirely after her husband passed — she could not manage the steep pitch. We installed a compact-profile seat that clears the header by four inches, added a powered swivel so she exits facing the bedroom, and used galvanized brackets with neoprene washers (standard on every Maryland install). She uses the upstairs guest room for her grandchildren every weekend.

Outdoor

Violetville — outdoor stoop lift with cold-rated battery and de-icing channel

Violetville, MD Installed December 2025

A brick rowhome in Violetville with seven concrete entry steps and an unheated enclosed vestibule. Mr. Meyers is 81 and had fallen on the icy front steps twice in the previous two winters. We installed an outdoor stoop lift with galvanized hardware, cold-rated battery (standard for any unheated stairwell in Baltimore County), a de-icing drip channel on the rail, and a lockable key switch for security. It ran through the entire 2025–2026 winter without a single issue.

Relay split-level — rail color-matched to walnut banister

Relay, MD Installed November 2025

A 1965 split-level in Relay with a formal walnut banister and carpeted treads. Mrs. Chen was clear: the lift cannot look like a medical device in the front hall her grandchildren walk through every day. We specified the slim-profile rail, matched the finish to the walnut grain, and positioned the lower park station so the folded chair sits flush against the wall. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage to the pile. Her mahjong group has met in the living room three times since and nobody has mentioned the lift.

Platform Lift

Elkridge — HISA-funded platform lift for power wheelchair user

Elkridge, MD Installed October 2025

A two-story home in Elkridge with a split-level entry and a homeowner who has used a power wheelchair for seven years after a service-connected injury during his Army career at Fort Meade. A seated stairlift was not an option — Mr. Washington cannot safely transfer out of his chair. We installed an indoor vertical wheelchair platform lift alongside the existing staircase, with yellow safety edges on the platform perimeter per ADA visibility standards and a keyed lockout so visiting grandchildren cannot operate it unsupervised. The HISA grant through the Baltimore VA Medical Center covered $6,800. We prefilled VA Form 10-0103 and the prescription came back in three weeks.

Common Questions

Everything Arbutus Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Arbutus right now?

Straight rails in standard Arbutus homes — the brick rowhomes along Sulphur Spring Road, the cape cods in Halethorpe, the split-levels in Relay — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Lansdowne colonials with 90° landing turns and older Catonsville homes with switchback staircases run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is custom-manufactured to your exact stair geometry. Outdoor models rated for Baltimore’s freeze-thaw cycles run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes the rail, seat, battery backup, cold-weather lubricant, and the first service visit.

Do the freeze-thaw and cold-weather modifications cost extra?

No. Hot-dip galvanized bracket hardware, stainless-steel fasteners, and cold-rated batteries are baseline on every Baltimore County install — not upcharges. We built those into our Maryland spec years ago because standard powder-coated brackets fracture within five years in the mid-Atlantic freeze-thaw cycle. Equipment pricing is the same across Maryland. What can vary slightly is labor: reinforced mounting for settling rowhome foundations, running a dedicated outlet to an enclosed stairwell, or removing old carpet before bolting. We itemize everything upfront.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving to a single-story home around Arbutus?

Significantly. The median home price in southwest Baltimore County is around $280,000. Between realtor commissions, closing costs, moving expenses, and the cost of leaving the rowhome you’ve lived in for decades — near the church, near the grandchildren, near Caton Avenue — downsizing runs $25,000–$55,000 minimum. A straight stairlift installed and warrantied costs under $5,500. A curved rail for the most complex staircase in Arbutus costs under $15,000. The math is not close.

My rowhome has only 12 stairs. Does that make it cheaper?

Yes. Shorter stair runs mean shorter rails, and rail length is the primary cost driver for straight installations. A typical Arbutus rowhome has 12–13 treads and a 10–12-foot run — that puts you at the lower end of the straight-rail price range, usually $2,800–$3,800 installed. The motor, safety sensors, battery backup, and warranty are the same regardless of length. Shorter rail, same quality, lower price.

A word from Luis

Most Arbutus families call me after the same kind of morning — a father who slipped on the steep stairs of a Shelbourne Road rowhome, a mother in Halethorpe who hasn’t been upstairs in months because her knees gave out, a Korean War veteran on Sulphur Spring Road who didn’t know the VA HISA grant could cover most of the cost.

I drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and leave you with a written price honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
