Stairlift Service Across Rapides County

Rapides County, LA

From the Garden District's NRHP-listed Craftsman bungalows along Jackson Street — bounded by Marye, Bolton, White, and Hynson Bayou, where humidity demands corrosion-resistant hardware and steep narrow staircases require slim-profile rails — to the Alexandria Post-War Suburbs Historic District, Louisiana's first mid-century modern NRHP district, where 1950s ranches need outdoor rails on raised pier-and-beam entries. We know which Bringhurst blocks have settling 1940s treads that need shimming, which Bolton Avenue homes have mid-landing turns requiring curved rails, which Sonia Quarters shotgun cottages need compact straight runs, and which South Alexandria brick split-levels along Masonic Drive take a clean 14-ft straight rail. We also serve Pineville across the Red River, Ball, Woodworth, Boyce, Lecompte, and Tioga.

Garden District Craftsman — straight rail on dark longleaf pine treads with cream-upholstered seat

Garden District, LA Installed March 2026

A 1948 Craftsman bungalow on Jackson Street with original dark longleaf pine treads, pier-and-beam foundation, and a staircase steep enough that Mrs. Landry's physical therapist refused to clear her for independent use after a hip replacement. Luis shimmed four rail brackets where the house had settled over seventy-five years so the chair rides perfectly level. The rail bolts directly to the dark pine treads, and the cream-upholstered seat parks at the bottom landing in the warm hallway lighting. The original oak millwork and newel post stay untouched.

South Alexandria split-level — curved rail with 90-degree turn at the upper landing

South Alexandria, LA Installed February 2026

A 1967 split-level on Masonic Drive with a 90-degree turn at the upper landing and a decorative newel post the family wanted preserved. Master Sgt. Robinson retired from Fort Polk eleven years ago and the bedrooms are all on the second floor. Luis laser-scanned the staircase, fabricated a curved rail that threads past the newel post, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the top so he steps off onto the upper landing. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the top in the modern, high-ceiling foyer. His HISA grant through the Alexandria VA covered $6,800.

Bringhurst brick cottage — compact straight rail on light stone tile beside a sideboard

Bringhurst, LA Installed January 2026

A 1952 brick pier-and-beam cottage in the Bringhurst neighborhood with light stone tile flooring at the base of the staircase and a wooden sideboard Mrs. Thibodaux refused to move. The narrow stairwell required the slimmest rail in our catalog. Luis shimmed the rail brackets to compensate for seventy years of pier-and-beam settling so the chair rides perfectly level. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the bottom next to the sideboard and a potted plant. The traditional, cottage-scale interior with its original brick walls stays intact.

Pineville raised porch — outdoor rail on flagstone steps with humidity and storm protection

Pineville, LA Installed December 2025

A 1955 pier-and-beam house in Pineville with a raised front porch six feet off the ground and eight flagstone steps that became treacherous during Central Louisiana thunderstorms. Mrs. Prejean's daughter called after her mother slipped during a summer storm. Luis installed a weather-sealed outdoor rail with 316-stainless fasteners rated for high humidity, a cream-upholstered UV-stable seat, and an IP55-sealed motor. The battery backup ran the lift through a Cleco outage during tropical-storm rain in August without interruption.

Bolton Avenue colonial — pre-surgery straight rail on wide carpeted stairs

Bolton Avenue, LA Installed November 2025

A 1972 colonial on Bolton Avenue with wide carpeted stairs in warm brown tones and a clean straight run from the tiled foyer to the bedrooms. Mrs. Comeaux's orthopedic surgeon at Rapides Regional Medical Center told her she would need a total hip replacement and should not use the stairs unassisted for eight weeks post-op. Luis used extended mounting bolts that penetrate through the thick carpet pad into the subfloor for a rock-solid mount. The brown upholstery matches the carpet tone, and the seat parks at the upper landing.

Platform Lift

Sonia Quarters split-level — indoor inclined wheelchair platform with yellow safety edges

Sonia Quarters, LA Installed October 2025

A 1960 split-level cottage in the Sonia Quarters neighborhood where Mr. Dupree uses a power wheelchair after a stroke. The five-step rise from the carport entry to the main living level made half the house inaccessible. Luis installed an inclined indoor platform lift with a flat black anti-slip deck, bright yellow high-visibility safety edges, and a white handrail along the indoor stairway. Mr. Dupree qualified for the Louisiana Community Choices Waiver — the entire cost was covered through Medicaid, and he never saw a bill. The platform carries his 360-lb chair with rider, well under the 600-lb capacity.

Common Questions

Everything Alexandria Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Alexandria, LA right now?

Straight rails in standard Alexandria homes — the Garden District bungalows, the Bringhurst cottages, the brick two-stories in South Alexandria — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for most split-levels and some older Bolton Avenue homes with L-shaped staircases, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised pier-and-beam entries and front porches run $4,000 to $7,500 with humidity and storm-resistant spec included. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in the Garden District than other Alexandria neighborhoods?

Equipment prices are identical across Alexandria and Rapides Parish. What can vary slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: fitting a slim-profile rail into a narrow 1940s Craftsman staircase in the Garden District, shimming brackets for pier-and-beam settling in Bringhurst, or running extra corrosion-resistant hardware on a raised porch entry in Sonia Quarters. Every line item is listed on the written quote. No neighborhood surcharge, no historic-district premium.

Can I combine the HISA grant with the IRS medical deduction?

Yes — and most Central Louisiana veterans should. The VA HISA grant covers up to $6,800 for service-connected disabilities. Separately, if your doctor prescribes the stairlift, the IRS lets you deduct the full cost as a qualified medical expense on Schedule A. They come from different sources and stack. On a $5,000 straight rail install, a veteran could recover the HISA grant plus $1,000-$1,500 at tax time depending on bracket. We file both sets of paperwork as part of our standard service.

Does insurance ever cover a stairlift in Louisiana?

Traditional Medicare does not cover stairlifts. Louisiana Medicaid through the Community Choices Waiver does cover them as environmental accessibility adaptations — see the funding tab. Some Medicare Advantage plans and long-term care insurance policies cover partial or full cost. If your parent has a long-term care policy, check for 'home modification' or 'durable medical equipment' coverage. We provide the documentation format most insurers require.

A word from Luis

Central Louisiana families wait too long to call. By the time I hear from them, somebody's mother in a Garden District Craftsman on Jackson Street hasn't been upstairs in six months, or a retired veteran near England Airpark is sleeping in the den because the bedrooms are on the second floor. These are pier-and-beam homes from the 1940s and 1950s — solid construction, but steep stairs and narrow hallways that weren't designed for aging in place.

I drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a written price honored for 30 days. If you qualify for the Louisiana Community Choices Waiver, or use the Alexandria VA Medical Center at 2495 Shreveport Highway in Pineville, I bring the paperwork on the first visit.
